Poppyseed oil is used particularly with whites and light blues for its non-yellowing nature as a medium. It is a slower drying oil with a paint film not quite as strong as Linseed and Safflower oils. It was used from the 15th century onwards and originated in the low countries of Europe
- – Refined Poppy Seed Oil reduces the consistency of oil paints while increasing gloss and transparency.
- – Will dry slower than linseed oil, though it is paler and less inclined to yellow.
- – Ideal for working wet-on-wet.
- – Because of its slow-drying properties, it is not advisable to use this oil when underpainting.
