Artists that use Square and Golden

tom hoar

Born in 1978, Tom Hoar has established a reputation as a refreshingly talented, up and coming young British artist and has exhibited with the New English Art Club, Royal Society of British Portrait Painters, the RBA and the Royal Watercolour Society.

Tom paints all of his smaller works on Square and Golden Panels, and they all get framed in S&G Frames.

During the Covid pandemic, Tom painted a series of works on Mini-Golden Wild Panels for the Artist Support Pledge. He was so successful with these small works that, in collaboration with Tom, we at S&G designed the first Artist Edition Frame – the Tom Hoar Mini-Golden Wild Frame.

Nine Shades of Grey – an exercise conducted to look for a good frame for  for the hugely successful series of paintings by Tom Hoar on S&G Mini-Golden Primed Wild Panels. These paintings are for sale on the Artist Support Pledge scheme.

I decided on three colours to use: White; Farrow and Ball Lamproom Grey and Farrow and Ball Downpipe. These nine frames show nine different combinations of the three colours using the available zones of the Mini-Golden Wild Frame.

Wild frames are available in three sizes: Mini-Golden; Small Square, and Small Golden – each in either Raw timber (FSC® certified, of course) or Traditional Gesso. The chosen frame out of this exercise will be added to the range as a finished option.

Having shown the nine options to Tom and Laura, we all agreed that the one in the centre is the clear winner – see the following images for a couple of Tom’s paintings in the winning frame….
